Cultivating well-being for neurodivergent employees: the power of connection.

Abstract
As neurodiversity becomes an increasingly recognized and valued aspect of organizational life, workplaces are striving to understand and address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by neurodivergent employees. Despite the demonstrated benefits of workplace relationships in facilitating work and improving well-being and work outcomes, we know relatively little about: (1) the processes through which neurodivergent employees form and sustain workplace relationships, (2) how these relationships impact their wellbeing and work outcomes, and (3) the role of leaders, colleagues, and organizational practices in shaping these experiences. This symposium includes qualitative and quantitative research that enriches the understanding of workplace relationships for neurodivergent employees, providing evidence-based recommendations for organizations on how to create environments where all employees can thrive. The symposium’s five papers examine critical dimensions of neurodivergent workplace experiences, including cross-neurotype communication, the role of leadership behaviors like curiosity and empathy, the impact of social support and disclosure on burnout, and advocacy as a pathway to inclusion and justice. Together with an engaging discussion led by Dr. Tiffany D. Johnson, this symposium aims to deepen our understanding of neurodivergence in organizational contexts, spark interdisciplinary dialogue, and build a research agenda that informs practice and fosters more inclusive workplaces.
