Abstract

This case tells the story of the decline of Alliance Trust, an investment company established in 1888 in Dundee, Scotland, as a result of the actions of an active investor, Elliott Management. Topics include the business model of investment funds, the role of active investors, corporate governance, business ethics and leadership.
