Abstract

The values and assumptions made about science and scientists are key to understanding the tensions in public engagement. Martin Rowley and James Hartley look at psychology studies which have evaluated children’s perceptions of scientists, all confirming stereotypical views of scientists as predominately white and male. How might science and social science be taught in a way that challenges these perceptions?
