Abstract

Mass demonstrations were held in Tunisia on 29 March to protest against terrorism following the attack at the Bardo Museum that killed 22 people. The attack prompted the European Council to issue a statement in which it committed the European Union to pursue greater co-operation with Tunisia to help combat terrorism and strengthen the country’s social and economic development. Iván Martín assesses the EU’s approach to Tunisia since the ousting of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011, and outlines some tangible measures the EU could put in place to help the country continue its democratic transition.
