Abstract
The elections held in Turkey on 1 November produced a majority for the Justice and Development Party (AKP) associated with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, however many observers have raised concerns over growing divisions in the country stemming from the conflict between Kurdish groups and the Turkish state. Ilke Toygür writes that Turkish society is in a state of heightened anxiety and that the country desperately needs the new AKP government to revive the peace process with the Kurds while taking further steps toward democratisation.
