Abstract

The papers, which form the basis of this booklet, were prepared for a seminar which took place in summer 2008 to mark the 50 years since the formation of the Greater London Group. These have been edited and in some cases extended by their authors. We would like to thank all those who participated in that event and particularly those who wrote and presented the papers. In addition, we would like to thank Christine Whitehead, Ian Gordon, Gill Wedlake and Marialanna Lee who con- tributed to its organisation. Finally, we are grateful to the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF) which helped to fund this publication and the seminar through the LSE London Research Centre.
