Abstract
This photo shows a skinned dog ready for sale in a farmers market in Sapa (Vietnam). I chose this photo because I think that it conveys quite powerfully some of the topics I am working on with my research - in particular, questions related to the origins and role of values. For some it may be hard to witness a dog being sold for meat, but in other cultures this is nothing out of the ordinary. These two different reactions are simply the result of holding different values. This photo is an invitation to the viewer to become aware both of the relative validity of their own values, and yet of the extreme relevance those values have in shaping their vision and understanding of the world. - Winner of the LSE Research Festival 2014 Popular prize.
