Abstract
It was the summer holidays when I did my fieldwork. Umm-el-Fahem’s residents, especially parents, were concerned about their kids having nowhere to go in the summer. No adequate playgrounds, no resources, but the streets. The entire city has got only two very small and impoverished playgrounds, with hardly any facilities. Claiming the streets for play time would have been alright, if only cars were not there to take over, and sometimes put the kids’ lives in danger.
