Abstract

The annual "Global Civil Society Yearbooks" provide an indispensable guide to global civil society or civic participation and action around the world. "The 2010 Yearbook" provides a critical examination of the ways global civil society promotes and delivers social justice. The overarching questions concern how the 'global' makes a difference to traditional concepts of social justice. With its raison d'etre of considering 'globalization from below', "The Global Civil Society Yearbook" can contribute innovatively to the key debates by turning them around and looking at what global social justice means for people and various groups in different cultures. "The Global Civil Society Yearbook" remains the standard work on all aspects of contemporary global civil society for activists, practitioners, students and academics alike. It is essential reading for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the key actors, forms and manifestations of global civil society around the world today.
