Discusses whether biotechnology companies should focus on publishing scientific papers as well as obtaining patents to add value to their work. Surveys the relationship between a company's capital value to investors, papers published and cited, and patent applications. Examines how to improve the credence of patents, and whether patent offices, like scientific journals, should have recourse to peer review.
