Abstract

This chapter highlights important insights from discussions in this volume regarding the future of democratic development and governance in Africa. It showcases a cocktail of democratic development in spite of autocratic persistence that has emerged over the last two decades in Africa. The chapter reveals that the dynamics of democratic development and the resurgence of autocracy vary across the continent based on socio-political and historical peculiarities. It concludes by calling for Afrocentric governance models grounded in localised democratic institutions as crucial steps in nurturing democratisation in Africa.
