An introductory text on contemporary issues in Arab-Israeli relations. The text looks at the origins of the conflict (in the late 19th century), and then provides a chronological treatment of the conflict from the 1948 war through to the peace process in the 1990s. A concise and accessible introduction to a highly complex subject. Following the opening chapter on the origins of the Arab-Israeli conflict, Dr Schulze takes the reader through the causes, course, and consequences of all the major conflicts, concluding with a chapter on the Middle East peace process in the 1990s. As well as analysing the events themselves, the author also considers the historiographical debates on nationalism, revisionism and post-revisionism. An excellent introduction providing a clear and readable account for students of postwar international history, Middle Eastern Studies and politics.
