Abstract

Women who succeed in academia by promoting their own career without helping other women are disparagingly labelled ‘queen bees’. On the basis of decades of research, we argue that the tendency to hold women — but not men — responsible for improving the outcomes of all women is a symptom of gender inequality that serves to perpetuate inequality in academia.
