Despite a century of convergence, a stubbornly persistent gender earnings gap remains, with many examples of occupations that are male (example engineering, and astrophysics) and female (social worker, primary school teacher) dominated remaining. This report is complementary to the many studies in the literature which consider explanations for gender wage gaps and gender based occupational sorting. In this work [the authors] are interested in the extent to which pro male attitudes at an occupation level explain gender-based sorting and the differential share of females in particular occupations. [The authors] also explore whether pro male attitudes determine the share of females in an occupation.
