Recently, academic research develops excellence and acts as important engine of social change. It is the motivation for the current paper to assess the performance of social science research in China. Research performance is difficult to evaluate because most of the research is incommensurable, not to mention evaluating its improvement over time. We separate the social research process into research development stage and research innovation stage with the researchers as a shared input. We apply a multi-period two-stage network DEA (data envelopment analysis) model proposed by Kao(2014) with considering of a shared input in order to find the interfaces and then cut them through to get overall improved research abilities, we count research performance discrimination among universities and subjects. In addition, we assess the research performance improvement in Jiangsu province of China between 2010 and 2014 via using the global Malmquist productivity index (MPI) to find the dynamic within-organization (within-subject) and cross-organization (cross-subjects) strength interfaces. At this point, we appeal to construct an academic sharing system among high education institutions (HETs) and a subject ecosystem among subjects to deepen and accelerate the development and innovation of ongoing sustainability social research.
