Abstract
Colourful pirogues return to the shores of a Senegalese fish market, their catch diminishing as foreign industrial trawlers deplete stocks. A fisherman tells me of one such boat which capsized attempting to reach Europe. In a country with chronic unemployment, these vessels represent hope and despair in many forms.
