Abstract

Arab Media: Globalization and Emerging Media Industries, co-authored by Mellor, Ayish, Dajani, and Rinnawi, is a good introduction to the history of Arab media. Although it lacks a central unifying argument, the book identifies the main actors in the Arab media landscape, the ways media functioned under different states, as well as economic considerations of ownership and diffusion. The book is likely to appeal to readers seeking a broad analysis of the key issues influencing Arab media before the 2011 uprisings.
