Abstract

Does new housing development always reduce the value of existing properties around that development? In this article, Christine Whitehead and Emma Sagor examine the evidence, finding that house prices do not always decline around new housing developments as many fear, at least not for a sustained period of time. There were sometimes short term price reductions during or immediately after the construction period.
