Abstract
This short appreciation revisits Duncan Kennedy's famous 1982 essay, 'Legal Education and the Reproduction of Hierarchy', with a view to reflecting on what his work has meant for the author personally, during her career as a legal academic; and to drawing out from the paper one of the themes which are distinctive, unusual and important in Kennedy's work, both among American legal academics generally and among critical legal scholars more particularly.
