The article discusses the failure of the "Day of Rage" protest on March 11, 2011 in Saudi Arabia, with particular focus given to the Saudi government's response to the planned protest and the limits of online calls to protest in countries lacking civil societies. The regime's reaction to protests including arrests of protesters, promotion of the idea that protests would bring the wrath of God on the country, and monetary handouts to workers is described. The lack of response by the U.S. and other Western countries to Saudi Arabia's repressive practices towards calls for reform is also touched on.
