Abstract
The European Commission is finalising proposals to introduce women quotas on company boards across the EU. Linnea Sandström Lange writes about the upcoming proposals and looks at theories of why women are often poorly represented on corporate boards. She argues that existing solutions that focus on care and flexibility as a solution to help women to join the workforce do little to account for existing gender gaps and that, by contrast, quotas may offer both short term changes in the number of women in executive positions and the beginnings of a wider cultural change.
