Abstract
This review examines the recent reactions of the governments of Argentina and Brazil to land grabbing by foreign actors. In these two countries, national political parties, small and medium farmers, and the overall population perceive the recent surge of foreign acquisitions of land as a threat to national sovereignty. This political support translated into new regulations that restrict foreign acquisitions of agricultural land and aim to determine the amount of land that is presently in the hands of foreigners.
