With signs that elements of the Chinese military are gaining further traction over policy making, Chris Hughes explains how the current manoeuvring for power among China’s leaders and the pursuit of the doctrine of a ‘wealthy nation with a strong army’ by potential leadership candidates is allowing the military to play a key role in the upcoming transition of power.
