One of the most remarkable theories Africanist anthropology in recent decades was the proposal of Georges Balandier on the "colonial situation" and in particular his portrayal of the rise of religious movements of messianic or prophetic nature in the Congo region in the context of claims anti-colonial or so politicized. In this article I intend to revisit the main theories of Balandier from the case study of two prophetic Christian churches in the same region - and the Kimbanguism Tocoismo - where I developed, along with my colleague Ramon Sarró, fieldwork in Portugal and Angola. This reflection on the role of prophecy in contemporary Africa and Congo will also be a claim of relevance and timeliness of scientific production Balandier, one of the greats of French social sciences of the twentieth century.
