Abstract

This paper analyses the main contributions dealing with the integration of uncertainty in the pure theory of international trade. We examine the question of whether theorems which play a very important role in the certainty models, in particular the central propositions of the Ricardian and the Heckscher-Ohlin models, fails to hold in the presence of randomness. The aim of the article is to show that the attempts to demonstrate the harmfulness of free trade under some kinds of uncertainty, although interesting progress have been made, have not come yet to unanimous conclusions susceptible of a general interpretation.
