Abstract

This introductory chapter situates the post-Laclauian discursive-performative approach in the wider literature on populism, outlining its key tenets, theoretical assumptions and core influences, drawing on authorities in adjacent fields, and comparing it to the other central approaches to populism. It then outlines the key themes and structure of the volume.
