Abstract
Inclusion and involvement of trans communities in research are two different goals. Inclusion means both that research is done about trans communities and concerns and that studies designed to capture experiences of the general population are adapted to be able to account for the often unique experiences of trans people, even if trans people are not a key demographic of interest. In contrast, involvement in research pertains to consulting or collaborating with trans people and larger trans communities in order to conduct research, usually because the research centrally concerns trans people and their experiences. These two approaches do overlap, but this entry differentiates them to provide insights into how either goal can be achieved at various stages and scales of research. To that end, the following sections proceed chronologically with inclusion and involvement approaches for the design phase first, then the implementation and analysis phases, and finally the reporting phase.
