Abstract
The run-up to Britain’s 2015 General Election will see the idea of holding an in-out referendum pushed as a necessary step for any new government that hopes to solve Britain’s European question. But the nature of the European question and the limits of what direct democracy can deliver means all sides should be weary of raising too many expectations of a referendum, says Tim Oliver.
